Diet does not have a direct impact on atherosclerosis and vascular damage. This is proven by the example of vegans and vegetarians – all those who do not consume animal products at all. They, like everyone else, have vascular damage and atherosclerotic plaques, and the percentage of people with elevated cholesterol and a diagnosis of atherosclerosis is no lower than in the rest of the population.
