Why do we need cholesterol at all? Why does the body make it? First of all, cholesterol is the bricks and plaster from which the membranes of our cells and intercellular connections are made. Secondly, cholesterol is necessary to produce vital vitamin D. Thirdly, the body makes various hormones from cholesterol, without which we cannot live, such as sex hormones, for example, testosterone, estrogen, adrenal hormones, cortisol, and others.
